Hawks - ospreys - accipters & Vulture Photography from the nest to free flight

The following images are of various wild species of hawks and Vultures indigenous to North America. The most common are the broad winged Swainson’s, Rough Leg, Red-Tail and Ferruginous Hawk along with the “Bay Winged” Harris Hawk of Southern USA and Mexico. The fish eating Ospreys are also a common sighting near waterways. The forest based accipiters like Goshawks, Coopers Hawk and Sharp-shin Hawks are more secretive and less readily seen. Only the vultures have the sense of smell which is highly developed and enables them to locate rotting food. Very few other raptors except eagles will eat carrion.
